This page gets you here: an existing form’s fields and steps collect what you need.
The owner and a site editor can both do this. You cannot add a brand-new form type in the admin. See Forms, in brief.
Where
- Open Form List in the sidebar (
/admin/forms/definitions). - Click the form name or the pencil.
- Change the basics and the structure, then save at the bottom.
You can switch a form on or off from the list, without opening it. The top right links to Form inbox.
Basics
| Field | What it is |
|---|---|
| Display title | The form name on the admin list and on the public site |
| Form enabled | When this is off, the public popup and submit are rejected. The block may still be on the page, but a visitor cannot submit successfully |
Structure
The section is the form structure. The left side is an outline of steps and fields. The right side edits the step or field you selected. Drag the icon on the left to change the order.
Steps
- Every form has at least one step. Extra steps suit a long form (contact details first, then the request).
- Add a step, and give that step a title.
- You can delete a step. A normal form keeps at least one field on each step.
- A field can move to another step. It lands at the end of that step. Drag it if you need a finer order.
Add a field
Shortcuts add a short text field, a longer answer, a phone, an email, a date, a dropdown, a single choice, multiple choices, or a note.
| Type | What it collects |
|---|---|
| Single-line text | A name, a company, a short answer |
| Multi-line text | A message or a description of the request |
| Phone | A mobile or landline number |
| An email address | |
| Date | A preferred contact date, and similar |
| Dropdown | One choice, when there are many options |
| Single choice | A few options that exclude each other |
| Multiple choice | More than one option. Often used for “I have read this” |
| A note (no answer) | A privacy note or filling instructions. The visitor does not answer |
With a field selected, set its label, whether it is required, and the options (dropdown, single choice, or multiple choice). On a multilingual site, language tabs appear so you can translate options and labels separately.
If two fields share the same code when you save, the screen says so. Make the codes different, then save again.
How to check
- After you save, refresh. The fields and steps are still there.
- Open a public page that embeds this form. The order and the required marks match.
- Turn the form off and try to submit. It should be rejected. Turn it back on when you are done.
- On a multilingual site, switch the public language and see whether untranslated labels still make sense.
When it gets stuck
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| A notice that you only have read-only access | A viewer cannot change it. Ask the owner or an editor |
| The list is empty | This site has no form types yet. Contact TimTech. Do not build one somewhere else |
| The public page still shows the old fields | The page block is using a different form, or the browser cache is stale. Force a refresh |
| A conditional field never appears | Put it after the field it depends on, in the same step or an earlier step |
