This page gets you here: a static site exists, and a ZIP has been uploaded and has started deploying.
To go live, continue in Preview, publish, and roll back.
Before you start
- The site has Static sites on (see How modules are turned on).
- Your role is owner or site editor.
- You are not already at 3 sites (the list shows something like 1/3 used).
Where
Sidebar Static sites (/admin/static-sites). Empty state: No static sites yet / Create a subdomain and upload an HTML ZIP.
Create one site
- Fill the form above the list:
| Field | What it is |
|---|---|
| Name | Shown in the admin. You can change it later |
| Subdomain slug | Becomes the first part of slug.sites.…. Use lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens. Change it rarely after the site is live |
- Click Create. On success you see Static site created, and you land on that site’s edit page.
- The top of the edit page shows the public platform address in a monospace font. Copy it. Preview and DNS both use it.
Right after you create it, there are no files. The list status is Not published. Visitors who open the public address see that it is not published yet. That is expected.
How to pack the ZIP
- The archive must contain
index.html(orindex.htm) as the homepage. - Put the homepage at the outermost level of the ZIP, or wrap one folder that itself contains
index.html. Do not hide the homepage in a deeper folder. The system ignores__MACOSXand.DS_Storefrom a macOS archive. - Allowed types are roughly: HTML / CSS / JS, common images and fonts,
json/xml/txt,pdf, and short video (mp4/webm). - Do not include a README,
.md, PHP, executables,.env,.git, and similar. If any extension is not allowed, the whole deploy fails. - Do not include empty files (0 bytes). After unzip, a single file is limited to about 50MB.
- The ZIP upload limit is 50MB. If the unzipped result is over about 200MB, or over about 5000 files, this deploy fails, and the version already live keeps working.
The upload counts against the site’s storage. If there is not enough space, the deploy cannot finish.
Upload
- Open the site (click Manage on the list).
- Find Upload ZIP. The screen states the size limit.
- Choose a
.zipfile. While it uploads, a progress percentage is shown. - On success you see Deploy started; preview then publish.
- Refresh a little later and check the Releases table. The failure reason is in the Failure reason column. The live site is not cleared.
A successful re-upload becomes a preview first. It does not replace the live site immediately. Visitors see the new version only after you click Publish.
How to check
- The site appears on the list, and the host column contains
…sites…. - Releases has a new row whose status can be previewed (it is not a failure).
- There is an Open preview link (see the next page).
When it gets stuck
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| Cannot create | You already have 3 sites, or the slug is taken. Change the code, or remove or disable a site you no longer use (if the screen allows it) |
| Deploy failed: index.html not found | Put the homepage at the ZIP root, or wrap only one folder, then upload again |
| ZIP exceeds the size limit | Shrink images and video before you zip. A single file should also stay within 50MB |
| Not enough storage | Clear the main site’s media library, or old files you do not need, then upload again |
| The release keeps failing after upload | Read the failure reason. It is usually a blocked extension, an empty file, or too many files |
