This page gets you here: a visitor (or a signed-in member) can find this article in the public catalog and in search.
Writing the content is in Add folders and pages.
Why a published article is still missing on the public site
The docs center is stricter than a single news article:
- That page must be published (if it is scheduled, the time must have arrived).
- Every folder above it must be published too.
If any folder in the middle is still a draft, the pages under it do not appear in the public catalog, in search, or in the sitemap. If you publish while a parent is still off, a notice names the folders that are not published yet. Publish those folders first.
Checklist: the article is published → every folder above it is published → the audience is right → a private window opens the right URL.
How to publish
Each row on the tree can switch between published and draft (a success notice confirms it was published, or set back to draft). You can also select rows and use Publish or Unpublish. The success notices are Published selected nodes and Set selected nodes to draft.
The bottom of the edit page can publish too. Fill in the slug and the title before you publish.
If that page’s SEO turns off “allow search engines to index,” the page is left out of the sitemap and marked noindex (every language). See Site SEO, in brief.
Audience
| Setting | On the public site |
|---|---|
| Public (anyone can read) | Anyone can read it. It can enter the sitemap and public search |
| Members only (sign-in required) | Someone who is not signed in is sent to the public sign-in. If this item or a folder above it is members only, every descendant requires sign-in |
A members-only article does not enter the public sitemap, and it does not enter the public AI chat knowledge base.
Preview
Preview on the row shows content that is not public yet (you must be signed in to the admin). Preview is not blocked by members-only. If the module is off, preview cannot be used either.
Restore a version
After a page is published, later edits to the body may keep a version. On the edit page you can restore it as a draft (restoring does not publish it again by itself). Use this to recover a bad edit.
Check
- In a private window, open the public URL (not a preview parameter): the content and the sidebar catalog are both there.
- The folders above it are visible in the public sidebar too.
- Members only: after you sign out, you are asked to sign in; after you sign in, you can read it. See The public sign-in and member area.
When it sticks
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| The article is published and the catalog does not show it | Check every folder above it, and confirm each one is published |
| Search cannot find it | It is still a draft, it is members only, or it has not been published long enough. Use the top-bar search on a page that is already public |
| After you change the slug, the old link is 404 | See Redirect a document |
