Admin: sidebar Document tree, the space list (/admin/docs). The page is for creating and managing doc spaces. Open a title to reach the tree and the pages.
The docs center fits how-to guides, product docs, and FAQs: a catalog on the left, the article on the right. The public docs site has its own top bar (the logo, Back to site, Search docs). It does not use the website header or footer.
If the sidebar has no docs entry, the platform decides whether this is available. Contact TimTech.
The ideas
| Name | What the admin calls it | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Space | The space list | One separate library. For example, a site handbook and product docs can be two spaces |
| Folder | A folder on the tree | A chapter in the sidebar. It can hold more folders or pages |
| Page | A page on the tree | The article itself |
| URL slug | The edit field | The piece that builds the public path |
Main admin entries
| Where | Use |
|---|---|
Space list (/admin/docs) | Manage spaces |
| Open one space | Add folders and pages, Publish a document |
| Docs redirects | Redirect a document |
| Type settings (top right of the space list, if you have permission) | Change the public URL prefix (for example /docs) |
Public URLs
Assume the prefix is /docs (your site’s type settings are the source of truth):
| Where | Example |
|---|---|
| Default space home | /docs |
| A page in the default space | /docs/getting-started/welcome |
| Another space’s home | /docs/product (the space slug is product) |
| A page in that space | /docs/product/install/step-1 |
The default space’s code is usually default. That word does not appear in the public URL.
Visitors can press ⌘K, or Search docs in the top bar. You can also put a docs link in the site menu. See Edit the menu.
How this differs from site pages
| Site pages | Docs center | |
|---|---|---|
| How you edit | The section editor | A tree, plus the article body |
| Look | The site-wide header and footer | The docs top bar and the sidebar catalog |
| Fits | The marketing site and landing pages | Handbooks, guides, and nested chapters |
Who can do this?
By default an owner and a site editor can create and publish. A viewer is usually read-only. Changing the prefix (type settings) is usually owners only.
A workable order
- Confirm there is a space (most sites already have a default space).
- Create folders as chapters first, then add pages inside them.
- Publish both the folders and the pages. Otherwise the public catalog will not show them. See Publish a document.
- Open the right URL in a private window. After a slug change, old links are in Redirect a document.
