This completes: Define 'who is related to whom' (for example, Expert ↔ Column Article), select on both edit pages, and list related content in blocks on the detail page.
Content relationships are not category filters for lists. Categories are used to filter 'a group of entries within the same type'; relationships are used to connect specific entries between different types or messages.
Only site owners or platform administrators can create/modify relationship definitions; editors can select existing counterparts on entries or messages.
Path
- In the upper right corner of the Content Type list, click Content Relationships (or search for 'Content Relationships' in the backend).
- Click Add Relationship, fill in the name, code, Parent/Child, cardinality, and decide whether to display the selector on both edit pages.
- After saving, go to the corresponding CPT entry or message edit page, search in the Related block and add the counterpart.
- To display 'Related Articles' in the details of expert-type CPTs, insert the block Related Content List (Automatic) in the Detail Page Template of that type, select the established relationships and directions under the Content Relation dropdown; when the counterpart is a CPT, select the cover image/summary field from the dropdown (you can choose the built-in 'Summary'), and set a character limit for the summary. In the block settings, you can adjust the Sorting Method, Pagination Method (Load More/Page Number), number of items per page, and the 'More' link (same as latest news and custom content lists).
- To list only entries 'related to a specific counterpart' on a certain page (for example, the lawyer list for 'Taichung Office'), use the page block Custom Content List (Automatic) with Static Filter → Content Relation (see below), without relying on which detail the visitor currently opens.
Use relation as a static filter in the custom content list.
Applicable scenario: The site owner has decided on the counterpart (for example, a specific branch), and the list only shows entries linked to it.
- Insert Custom Content List (Automatic) in the page editor and select the content type (for example, lawyer).
- In the Filter block, click Add Condition, and select Content Relation.
- Select List Role (as child/as parent), Relation Definition, then search and select Counterpart Entry.
- Can be combined with categories or other static conditions (all are "and").
Currently only supports custom content (CPT) on both sides for associations; associations with news will not appear in this dropdown. Visitors cannot switch filters on the other side yet—if you want to automatically list the other side based on "this entry", please use the detailed template's Related Content List (Automatic).
Pay attention when creating association definitions.
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Name/Code | Unique within the site, used in block settings. |
| Parent/Child | Custom content types or "Latest News" can be selected. Website pages cannot be selected. |
| Cardinality | One-to-one, one-to-many, many-to-many. For example, "one expert with multiple articles" uses one-to-many (Parent = Expert, Child = News). |
| Show Picker on Both Sides | Can only open one side. If both sides are closed, the editing page will not show the picker, but the front-end block can still display based on established links; the list will have a warning label. |
Deleting the association definition will also clear established links.
News Author Card
If the association is "Parent = Expert CPT, Child = News", after selecting an expert on the article editing page, the front-end author card will prioritize displaying that expert's name, profile, and link; if not selected, it will still use the manual author field on the article.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why is there no selector on the edit page?
Make sure the related definition has checked the option 'Show selector' on that side, and that the object type you are editing is consistent with the Parent/Child settings.
Q: What is the difference from classification?
Classification is a label within the same content type; relation is a specific correspondence across types (or with messages).
