This is completed: Decide which blocks visitors see when they open /{type}/{slug} (type code / entry URL), and where to pull entry fields.
By default, only owners can access this. It's better to have types and fields set up first, see How to Create Content Types and How to Edit Fields.
When no layout is designed, the details may be an almost blank skeleton: static blocks can still be arranged, but field values will not appear automatically unless you insert dynamic fields.
Path
- Content Type → Click the entry list for that type.
- Click Design Detail Page Layout.
- Similar to the page editor: add blocks from the block library, change copy, insert dynamic fields.
- Click Save Layout in the footer. Success message: "Detail page layout has been saved."
The screen subtitle is "Detail Page Layout." When unsaved, it shows "● Unsaved"; when saved, it shows "Saved." You can Undo (⌘Z).
Which entry to preview?
The Preview Entry above is used to select which data to render the dynamic fields. The preview will automatically refresh after the entry is saved. Draft entry names may have "(Draft)" appended.
- When there are no entries: Prompt "No entries available, cannot preview." You can save the layout first, then go to Add Entry.
- The preview iframe title appears as "{Type Name} Detail Page Preview."
For multilingual sites, you can switch Edit Language to edit the content for each language version.
Dynamic Fields
Instructions: Click on the { } Dynamic Field next to the text field to insert field values; field values are optional, and you can design a static layout without inserting them.
- Place the cursor in the text box where you want to output data.
- Click Dynamic Field (Tip: It will be inserted at the cursor position after clicking).
- Select a field from the list. The list groups include: fields for this type/this page, System Fields (such as titles), Contact and Social (only shows the entries you filled in Contact and Social), and Members when the site has opened membership/e-commerce/subscriptions (login, registration, forgot password paths, suitable for button links; registration links to
/signup). A prompt will appear if there are no fields on this page.
When fields are not defined, the screen will say: You can first design a static layout, or go to 'Type Settings → Field Definition' to create fields and then bind dynamic content.
Image-type fields must also be placed in the corresponding image block/dynamic position in the template; otherwise, the entries may have images, but the details could still be blank.
For the Gallery field of an entry (multiple images), please insert the block Gallery (Entry) and select the correct field. If you want visitors to click on images to open a large image preview (which can be swiped left and right), enable Click Image to Open Preview in that block (default is off). This is different from linking a single image; this block cannot have a separate URL for each image.
For a repeated list of image and text carousels, please insert Image and Text Carousel (Entry List) and select the correct field. The image preview toggle is also a block switch (default is off); buttons/links next to the images can still be used simultaneously. The field definition can apply the existing 'Image and Text Card' template; the title will grab the first text field, so please place the title before other text fields. Manually uploaded 'Gallery/Image Carousel' in the page can be seen in the Fullscreen Page Editor.
To show a repeater as tabs, insert Tabs (Item List). For the field definition, we recommend the template “Tabs (icon, tab title, content title, image, description)”. The “tab title” is the text on the tab, and the “content title” appears at the top of the tab's content (optional). If you already built tab fields and want a content title, add a text field with the field code heading to the field definition yourself.
Both blocks can have their images changed to the left or right in the block settings, see Fullscreen Page Editor.
Where should the rich text field be inserted?
Rich Text (can be bold, lists, links) should be inserted in the Content position of the block, not in the title, subtitle, or subheading.
| Recommended Insertion | Do Not Insert |
|---|---|
| Content of dual-column image and text, text block content, Rich Text Block content | Title, subtitle, subheading, card short description |
| FAQ answers, content pagination panel content | Quotes/Quotes (will turn into plain text) |
If inserted in the wrong place, the front end will convert the format to plain text or it may look like a string of code. Please check with a filled rich text entry in the preview to confirm that bold and lists are displayed.
The subfields of repeated lists (FAQ, pagination, timeline descriptions, etc.) can be changed to ‘Rich Text’, and the detailed format will display according to the content after binding.
How to verify?
- After saving the layout, open a published entry to view the front-end details (or preview).
- The title, custom fields, and images appear in the position you inserted.
- Switch to another preview entry, the dynamic position should update with the new data.
- Multilingual: Switch languages to see the layout copy and entry translations.
Common Issues
| Situation | Solution |
|---|---|
| No "Design Detail Page Layout" | Not the owner, or not a custom type. |
| "Unable to Load Preview" | Site identification is invalid. Go back to the admin panel and reselect the site. |
| Front-end details are almost blank | The template has not inserted dynamic fields, or the fields are inserted incorrectly. |
| Image not showing | The entry image field has no selected image, or the template did not include that image field. |
| Field code changed and became blank | The dynamic field still points to the old code. Reinsert it once. |
The list page layout is not here: please go to Page Management to insert Custom Content List (Automatic) and select the correct content type. See Full-Screen Page Editor.
The detail layout can also insert Synced Blocks (change one place, all referenced layouts update together). See How to Use Synced Blocks.
