This page gets you to one custom entry, published, so the public detail page (or a list section) can show it.
Owners and editors can both do this. The type and its fields must already exist. See Create a content type and Edit a type's fields.
Before you start
- The type is already on the content-type list.
- If the entry screen says the type has no fields yet, ask the owner to add fields before you fill anything in.
Path
- Content Types → open the type (for example “Faculty|List”). The URL looks like
/admin/site-content-types/…. - Click Add Entry. In single-entry mode, if one entry already exists, open that one instead.
- Use Save draft or Publish on the bottom bar.
- Once it is published, Preview on the bar opens the public page. Preview needs an admin session. Do not pass that link around as if it were public.
To edit an existing entry, click the title or Edit on the list. The path is …/entries/…/edit.
What the entry list can do
| Action | What it means |
|---|---|
| Search and category filter | Find it, then edit |
| Publish switch | Published ↔ draft |
| Preview | Open the public detail page |
| Duplicate as new draft | Multiple-entry mode only. A single-entry type cannot be duplicated |
| Delete | Cannot be undone |
| Drag to reorder | Change the list order |
| Bulk | Publish, return to draft, set categories, delete (with progress) |
| Copy public link | Copy the public URL from the list. This is not “duplicate as draft” |
The columns are roughly title, slug, category, and date. A long title is truncated. Hover to read the full name.
Add one, step by step
1. Basics
| Field | Required | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Title | Yes | The admin list and the public title. |
| URL slug | Yes | The last segment of the public path. Lowercase a–z, numbers, and underscore, and it must start with a letter. For example chen_wei. Unlike a product slug, this one uses underscores, not hyphens. |
| Entry page link | Depends on the type | If the switch is there: off means visitors cannot open /{type slug}/{slug}. You can set a list link (external or on-site) and an optional button label. If the label is filled, the list card shows that button. If it is empty, the whole card is clickable. Useful for a signup page or an external event. |
On a new entry, write the title first, then check that the slug reads well. Editing the title later does not change the slug, so old URLs stay valid. If you do change the slug, old links break. Update the menu and anything that pointed at the old one.
On a multilingual site, other language tabs can have their own title. Leave one empty and the public site uses the primary-language title.
2. The type's fields
Under Basics you get the fields the owner defined, sometimes grouped in tabs. Fill them in for this type.
- Anything marked required must be filled before publish. A draft may stay empty.
- Image / gallery: use Upload, or pick from the library.
- Link: the admin link picker can point at a page, a news article, a product, and so on.
3. Categories (if this type has any)
The block is titled Categories. You can tick more than one. Create them first in Manage content categories.
You can still publish with none ticked. The entry just will not appear when the public site filters by that category.
4. SEO (optional)
Each entry can have its own public title, description, and share image, separate from the site-wide SEO defaults. You can also turn off search indexing. See SEO for the whole site.
Hide it, or delete it
- Hide for now: unpublish from the bottom bar (the confirmation says the public site will no longer show it). Turning the list switch back to draft does the same.
- Delete: cannot be undone. In single-entry mode you can add the one entry again only after it is gone.
How visitors get a list
The detail URL is /{type slug}/{slug}, but there is no guaranteed fixed list path. In Pages, create a page (or use one you have) and insert custom content list (automatic), pointed at the right type. See The full-screen page editor.
If the detail page is still an empty frame, the owner follows Design the detail layout and inserts dynamic fields next to the text. A static layout can exist without them, but field values will not appear on their own.
How to check
- The list shows it as published, with the right categories.
- Preview, or open
/{type slug}/{slug}in a private window. The title and custom fields match. - If the entry page link is off, opening the URL directly should not land on a standalone page.
- The list section uses the right type and the right published-state filter.
- On a multilingual site, switch language and see that empty translations fall back in a sensible way.
When it sticks
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| “Please enter a title”, or the URL slug is invalid | The title is empty, or the slug uses a hyphen, non-Latin letters, or capitals. Use a form like chen_wei. |
| “Please fill in ‘…’ before publishing” | That field is required on the type. |
| Single-entry mode will not add another | One already exists. Edit that one. |
| Public 404 | It is not published, the slug or type slug changed, the entry page link is off, or the path is wrong. |
| The list section is empty | The section points at the wrong type, the entry is still a draft, or the category filter is too tight. |
| The image is missing | The image field was chosen but the entry was not saved, or the detail layout does not insert that image field. |
