This page gets you here: several pages share one block; edit it once, and every page that uses it updates. How it differs from a template is in Synced blocks, in brief.
Path: any page whose blocks you can edit → open the full-screen page editor.
Turn an existing block into a synced block
- On this page, arrange an ordinary block (for example media with text, or an FAQ) and get the content right first.
- On that card, use the link icon to save it as a synced block.
- Enter a name (required, for example “Sitewide FAQ”).
- Confirm create-and-replace. A notice says it was saved as a synced block.
- That row on this page becomes a reference. It is no longer a block that belongs only to this page.
- You still have to save the sections from the bottom bar before the page is actually stored.
The dialog says that after you create it, this page’s block becomes a reference, and other pages can insert the same synced block.
Insert it on another page
- Open the page editor of the page that should show it.
- Add from the block library (the dialog title is the block library).
- Switch to the synced-blocks tab (the other tab is block types).
- Click the name to insert it. The row shows how many pages reference it.
- Save the sections.
If there are no synced blocks yet, you see an empty state (nothing saved, or nothing matches the search) and a way to create one. That creates a copy first, then opens it for editing.
Edit the shared original
Click a reference card that is already inserted:
- The hint says editing here updates every page that references this block. If you only want this page to change, detach it into a local block.
- Edit the synced block: a screen that edits only this piece (titled as the synced-block content). After you save, every published page that references it updates together.
- The pencil on the synced-block list in the library does the same thing.
When you are done, preview more than one page that inserts it, and confirm they all changed.
Change only this page: detach
- On the reference card, detach the sync.
- The confirm dialog says this name becomes a local copy on this page. The shared original stays, and other pages are not affected.
- Confirm the detach. A notice says sync was removed and this page now has a local block.
- Save the sections.
After that, this page can change freely. It no longer moves with the other pages.
Remove it from this page, or delete the shared original
| Action | Control | Result |
|---|---|---|
| This page should not show it | Remove this reference | Only this page’s reference is removed. Other pages keep it |
| Nobody should keep this original | Delete on the synced-block list in the library | If a page (or a detail layout) still references it, you cannot delete it |
The delete confirm says you are deleting that synced block, and that it cannot be deleted while a page still references it (if you just detached, save the page first). Success says the synced block was deleted.
If you just detached or removed a reference on a page, save the sections before you delete the original. Otherwise the system still thinks something is using it.
What cannot become a synced block
| Situation | What you see |
|---|---|
| Dynamic-data blocks, such as the automatic news list or a custom-content list | A notice that a dynamic-data block cannot be saved as a synced block. The type picker says the same |
| The block contains a page dynamic field | A notice that a block with a page dynamic field cannot be saved as a synced block |
| You are not the owner | You cannot open the page editor |
For those, insert an ordinary block on each page, or use that module’s own list page.
The public site shows a broken block that cannot load
The reference is still there, but the original was deleted or does not exist. In the editor you see that the synced block cannot load and that you should remove the reference. Remove that row and save. Insert a new one if you still need it.
How to check
- Insert the same synced block on two pages and publish both.
- Change the original text and save. Both pages in a private window should show the new copy.
- Detach one page and edit only that page. The other page should stay on the original.
