By default only the owner can open the full-screen page editor, so this chapter is mostly for owners too. Learn The full-screen page editor first.
Four things that are easy to mix up
| Name | After you change it | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| A block on this page | Affects only this page | Most content |
| Synced block | You edit the one shared copy, and every page that inserts it changes together | A footer notice, a sitewide FAQ, a contact strip that is identical on each page |
| Block template | Loading copies it onto this page. Later edits to the template do not change pages that already loaded it | A new page that should start from a hero plus media, then diverge |
| Component library | An internal catalog (block kinds, header components, and similar) | Ordinary owners do not have this in the sidebar |
If the sidebar shows a component library, that is for TimTech’s own operations. Owners do not need it, and usually cannot open that page. Creating and inserting a synced block, and saving a template, all happen in the page editor.
If the screen shows the English word “master”, that is the one shared original.
How to choose
- Only this page should change: insert a block type from the block library.
- The same notice on About, Services, and Contact should always match: make a synced block.
- A new page should start from the home page’s blocks, then go its own way: use a template.
A custom content type’s detail layout can insert a synced block the same way as the page editor. See Design the detail layout.
