When the admin looks right, but a private window still shows the old copy or the old layout, check in this order. For a broken image, see Broken images and stale cache.
1. Did you save, and did you publish?
| Check | What it means |
|---|---|
| The bar at the bottom of the detail or settings page still says there are unsaved changes | If you did not save, the preview and the public site are not the latest. |
| Is the page, article, or product published? | A draft is visible only in the preview while you are signed in to the admin. |
| In the full-screen editor, did you save the sections? | Saving only the page details, and not the sections, does not change the public layout. |
Do not send a preview URL to a customer who is not signed in, as if it were the finished page. See Sections, preview, and publish.
2. Is it the same page, and the same site?
- Is the site name at the top the right one?
- Is the slug in the public URL the page you just changed? Do not use an old bookmark.
- On a multilingual site, are you looking at the wrong language? An empty translation shows the default language, which looks like “the change did not take.”
3. Browser cache
First force a reload, or open a private window. The admin has no button for a site owner to clear the whole-site cache. Most of the time, waiting a moment is enough. A CDN can occasionally lag.
4. If it is still wrong
Send support the site name, the public URL, whether you changed a title, a section, or which article, about when you saved, and a screenshot from a private window.
