When the admin is “missing” or “will not let you do it,” check the items below in order.
1. Confirm the site and the account
- Are you signed in with the right email?
- If you belong to more than one site, is the right site selected?
The wrong site looks like “the permission suddenly vanished.”
2. Separate the two causes
| What you see | Usual cause |
|---|---|
| A whole module section is missing from the sidebar (commerce, foreclosure, and similar) | The site has not turned that module on, or you have no permission for it |
| The sidebar has the entry, but opening it sends you back to the admin home | Usually not enough permission to read (there is often no clear error page) |
| You can see the screen, but you cannot save, or the button is disabled | Usually not enough permission to write, or that action is owners only |
When an item is missing entirely, use A feature is missing from the sidebar (site, section, module, permission). This page is about “you can see it, but you cannot do it.”
A module feature (commerce, bookings, foreclosure, some AI) needs both: the platform has turned the module on, and the account has permission. Pages are a basic ability. They depend mainly on role and permissions.
3. Roles and the usual limits
The defaults are roughly:
- Owner: can write almost everything; can invite members, change roles, and narrow permissions.
- Editor: can write most content. Some higher-risk actions (such as adding or deleting pages, the full-screen visual editor, and payment credentials) are often owners only.
- Viewer: can usually look, and cannot change anything.
If an editor cannot find “add a page” or the full-screen editor, that is often expected, not a bug. See Sign-in and roles and Members, in brief.
4. Who can fix it?
Only a site owner can:
- Invite a new member (the admin has no public sign-up; they must be invited by email)
- Change a role
- On role permissions, narrow editors and viewers (see Narrow what editors can do)
Ordinary site members are not required to turn on two-factor authentication (MFA). If you turned it on yourself in account settings, entering a code at sign-in is normal. If you never turned it on and you are still asked for a code, follow the message on the screen or contact support. See Account settings.
5. What to send if it is still stuck
When you contact an owner or TimTech support, include:
- The site domain or site name
- Your email and role (if you know it)
- What you tried to do, and the path (for example “Commerce → Products → Save”)
- The message or a screenshot (sent back to the home page, a disabled button, the error text)
