This article completes: Allow visitors to access this website using your own domain (e.g., www.example.com).
By default, only owners have access. Do not fill in this page for static website Hosting; please configure it in the static site settings. A CMS site can only bind one main domain on this page.
Admin: Website → Custom Domain (/admin/settings/domain).
Step by step
- Go to this page, Domain Settings card.
- Fill in Custom Domain (optional), for example,
www.example.com. Use lowercase, do not add a port. Leave it blank and save to clear the binding. - Click Save. A success message will indicate 'Custom domain has been updated.'
- DNS Settings Guide and status will only appear after saving. Unsaved drafts will not start verification.
- Add/modify records (type, name, value must be exactly the same as shown) at your domain registrar according to the table. You can click Copy.
- Return to this page and click Refresh Status.
Common meanings:
| Screen Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| DNS Correct, Traffic Routed | You can test if https is enabled for your site |
| DNS Not Correctly Pointing | Record type/value is incorrect, or still propagating |
| Status Unknown, Please Set According to Table | Complete the settings as per the table, then wait and refresh |
The guide will differ based on whether you fill in the root domain or www: the root domain usually requires an A record; subdomains (including www) usually require a CNAME. If you want both the root domain and www to work, both records need to be set (the screen will prompt companion domains). Please delete conflicting records pointing to the old host first.
The HTTPS certificate is applied for and renewed by the platform. DNS can only be changed in the registrar's backend; this page only provides guidance and status.
Please also do this after saving.
- Go to How to set up tracking and verification to confirm that the official website automatically displays the new domain, and resubmit the Sitemap and re-verify in Search Console.
- Change external publicity and menu links to the new domain.
- If you want to keep the old path, use Public Path Redirect.
The platform's default subdomain is usually still accessible; actual redirection takes precedence.
How to verify
- Status is DNS correct.
- Open your domain in an incognito window using https (for example,
https://www.example.com/), it should be accessible and the certificate valid. - Both
wwwand the naked domain (if both are set) will lead to the same site. - The official website and sharing preview are now on the new domain.
Common Issues
| Situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| "There are unsaved changes" | The status only reflects the saved domain. Save first, then check the new domain's instructions. |
| DNS just changed but still failed | Wait a few minutes to a few hours and then refresh. Ensure there are no old A/CNAME records pointing to another server. |
| Read-only access | Please have the owner take action. |
| Incorrect page filled for static site domain | Go to How to bind static site domain, do not use this page. |
