What visitors see
- The header may show a language switcher, depending on the layout.
- URLs follow the prefix strategy. Default Chinese might be
/about, and English/en/about. - Search engines get language tags automatically. There is no screen where you edit the hreflang table by hand.
An empty translation falls back to the primary language, so the page is not blank. The admin often notes that an empty field will show the primary-language text.
Can the primary language change?
If the site already has published content, the default language is usually locked. Ask the platform if it has to change. A new site with nothing published is more likely to allow the change. Whether the screen lets you is the answer.
